A beautifully proportioned Arts & Crafts ladder back armchair made from elm with three arching back splats and lovely shaped broad armrests terminating in rounded finials above nicely turned spindles below the arms and within the front stretchers. With the upholstered seat having a double-piped border in an elegant fabric - muted shades of red and green in a honeycomb pattern - which perfectly complements the beautiful patina and colour of the elm.
Attributed to Liberty & Co, designed by William Birch, this chair is in excellent condition and so attractive that wherever positioned it is still a standout piece of beautiful furniture.
Provenance – Part of the contents of a 15th century hall house.
