19thCentury Japanese Woodblock Print Kunisada I Utagawa / Toyokuni lll
An original Japanese woodblock print by Kunisada I Utagawa (1786-1864) born in Tokyo (formerly known as Edo) who became famous for his woodblock prints of theatrical scenes, especially the ‘kabuki’ actors and beautiful courtesans.
This framed print is one such example attributed by the Japanese Gallery, Kensington, to Kunisada I as per the accompanying cellophane packet noting the publication 1847-1852.
The print is in excellent, original condition (with a small indent lower centre on the green mount) and the frame has some minor marks, mostly to the lower right-hand corner.
