Known for high-quality furniture, A Younger Ltd with John Herbert’s award-winning designs, this Fonseca sideboard from the 1960s is one of their most successful and sought-after pieces due to the limited production and use of quality timber (teak and afromosia) of this modernist design in the Scandinavian style.
The teak and afromosia is used to good effect in emphasizing the sleek appearance and length of the sideboard, as do the central bank of three drawers featuring inverted drawer pulls and flanked either side by a good-sized cupboard – one with an internal shelf. The top drawer has cutlery dividers and the original green baize lining. The sideboard is labelled and raised on nicely tapered, sturdy legs, and is in excellent condition with some minor fading (see photo) to the beautiful top surface which slightly overhangs the base and, again, emphasises the sideboard length.
